Get good Grades

A big part of being an athlete is being good in the books. you are already competing with kids around the world but if you have better grades that might take you over the peak. Also, you have to have a qualifying GPA for sports period. Being a student always comes before being an athlete. so if you work hard in the books you will usually be rewarded. For example, if you want to play basketball at say a Harvard, you have to have a 4.0 average just to get into the school. Also for UCLA you need a 3.5 average. So make sure that you do good in school before any of this recruiting can happen.

Camps

This isn't a necessary tool you have to do to get looks from colleges, but this sure does help. Going to camps gives you more experience you should get. Having to compete against the best with scouts watching and observing you is good for you. It doesn't have to be a costly camp, but you still have to put some money into it. Many camps do different things, but I know for a fact that in the end you always scrimmage. They put the top against the top and you have to stand out. Show them your skills and give it your absolute best. Remember that you only have one chance to make it, so you should capitalize on every chance you get. Colleges don't want to see you go out there with a half (you know what) effort. Just do your best and the results will come.

Highlight Mixes

A very key component to you get scouted is to have highlight mixes. Unless you have  really good connections with a school, highlight mixes are pretty much necessary. Colleges need something to look at if they want to recruit you. You have to draw attention to them. They won't just go to your games, you have to show them your skills first before they do all that. Although many people  say highlight mixes don't show colleges anything, They really do. They give them a good sense of what you could do. If you just put you making wide open layups on a mix, that usually won;t get you anywhere. But if you put your handles, jump shot, passing and creating, then they will like that and probably check you out.
Another thing about highlight mixes is that you have to make them professional. It doesn't have to be the best of highlights but you need to do your best. You can't have it super low quality and play rockstar music. you should usually give it a nice mellow beat. Coaches do not want to hear screaming while watching a mix. Another thing, make sure the camera isn't shaky. You should definitely get a tripod and make sure you could actually see the game. You could make mixes on IMovie or Final Cut Pro. But if you aren't a mac user than you could use Windows Movie Maker. After making the video, you simply make a youtube account and post it on there. Share on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. The more views, likes, and comments the better. Look at the mix in the middle to fully understand what it should look like.

Contact Schools

Temple Logo
A big part of being recruited is to contact schools. Schools aren't usually looking for you unless your truly dominant. Only 1% of kids usually get contacted by schools. You can reach coaches usually best by e-mail, and probably not by phone. Once you reach them and make sure you sound very professional. Remember, they don't even have to look at this so at least make it look good and pop out to them. Another thing you have to do while contacting them is give them a reason why they should want you. You can't just say "I want to play for your school so please goto my games." You will look foolish and your e-mail will get deleted on the first sentence. You should at best greet them and write a 2-3 paragraph summary about why you should even be e-mailed back. Make sure you go over it with your parent or guardian and make sure there are no typos or screw ups. Good luck.
